What is a good type of martial arts that will keep me in shape and also be good for self defense?

I’m going to college in a year and a half and I’d like to know some sort of self defense that is good exercise and hopefully fun. What’s out there? Karate? Tae Kwon Do? Which should I try?

    Muay Thai, excellent cardio.conditioning, and excellent for self defense

    BJJ 100%

    90% of all fights end up on the ground, so take them over there

    Muay Thai & Kick boxing would be the best in my opinion. Theyre both good for conditioning & cardio. Kick boxing is more modern & it utilizes kicks & punches. Muay Thai is the more traditional art ultilizing not just kicks & punches but elbows & knee strikes as well. So with these two arts under your belt youll be well rounded in self defense (stand up self defense) which is where all common fights take place. Youll be in Great shape as well. If youd like to be well rounded in ground self defense. Id suggest BJJ (Brazilian JuJitsu). Its not too bad for conditioning, but it lacks carido.

    Brazilian Jiu Jitsu by far. You’ll get in great shape, and learn a very effective system of self defense. Also most BJJ gyms will have muay thai programs which is also a very effective style especially when mixed with BJJ.
